Events

WSSI-US Events highlight discrete moments where weather demand or the forecasts behind it change materially.

They are context for storage analysis, not a price signal.

  • forecast_instability_alert: the region's forecast_instability_regime entered VERY_UNSTABLE (top 5% of its history). Not a weather-severity or storage call.
  • model_divergence: GEFS and GFS HDD/CDD forecasts differ by more than 37 while the forecast-instability score moves by more than 10. Since events model 4.0 (5 October 2026) it fires about 4-5 times a year; severity is 2 above 45 and 3 above 51.

Events carry event_status (ACTIVE or SUPERSEDED). When a data revision means an event no longer fires, a SUPERSEDED version is written (with superseded_by_source and superseded_at) rather than the row being deleted. Filter on event_status = 'ACTIVE' for the current set.
