Signals
WSSI-US Signals quantify the magnitude and direction of weather-driven demand anomalies and their link to US gas storage.
storage_attribution: on the Sunday after an EIA storage week closes, the weather-attributable Bcf, seasonal norm and direction per storage region (Lower 48, East, Midwest, South Central). Not a forecast of the EIA print.demand_shock: the forecast demand anomaly (demand_anomaly_hdd, the series the backtest grades) and the forecast instability index (forecast_instability_score, which measures forecast confidence, not severity). The formerwssi_score/wssi_regimecolumns were retired on 23 September 2026.
Typical use cases
They are particularly useful for:
- Identifying weather-driven storage pressure in the heating season
- Separating the weather part of a storage surprise from the rest
- Judging how much to trust the current forecasts
Accessing WSSI-US Signals
from snowtrail import Snowtrail
client = Snowtrail(api_key="your-api-key")
# Fetch WSSI-US demand shock signal
df = client.wssi_us.demand_shock(date_from="2024-01-01")
# All methods return pandas DataFrames
print(df.head())
